Neolithic and Early Bronze Age of Cis-Baikal: Main Factors and Processes in the Development of Hunter-Gatherer Cultures

چکیده
Middle Holocene hunter-gatherers (HG) of the Cis-Baikal, Eastern Siberia, display substantial spatiotemporal variation in adaptive strategies highlighted by several cultural transitions. These transitions are examined focusing on role following factors: (1) changes distribution boreal forest; (2) technological innovations; (3) intensification fishing; and (4) their combined impacts subsistence social structure. The expansion retreat forest was important because it directly affected abundance large medium terrestrial game, core for all HG region. All other things being equal, expanding forests meant less game while shrinking more living space HG. bow crucial not only due to its superiority over spear atlatl as a hunting weapon but also flexibility allowed work equally well groups any size environment – or steppe. much higher return rates associated with freed enough labour be allocated activities such fishing. Reconstruction of early Neolithic/Bronze Age population diversity in the Shamanka II cemetery at Lake Baikal using mtDNA polymorphism
Mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA) polymorphisms were examinedin bone samples of individuals buried inan early Neolithic (c. 5800–4900 BCE) hunter-gatherer cemetery, Shamanka II, located atthe southwestern tip of Lake Baikal, Siberia. The mainobjective was to compare the mtDNA polymorphisms observed at Shamanka II to those previously reportedfrom the Lokomotiv (early Neolithic) and Ust...
متن کاملHunter–gatherer migrations, mobility and social relations: A case study from the Early Bronze Age Baikal region, Siberia
A large data set of geochemical data (Sr/Sr, C, dC, and dN) was obtained for a middle Holocene Early Bronze Age Khuzhir-Nuge XIV cemetery ( 4650–3950 cal. BP) in the Baikal region of Siberia. This material is analyzed at the individual level and in the context of demographic data and spatial arrangements within the cemetery revealing a number of new insights about hunter–gatherer adaptive strat...
